A while ago I received the Jewelry Recipe Book to review on my blog. Problem was, with all of the wedding madness I forgot to get a post up. In the post-wedding calm, I feel like I’m almost back into my regular routines of making. 🙂
What I really like about the DIY Jewelry Recipe book is that it takes simple objects and elevates them to surprising importance… Or it shows you how to use things that you’ve had forever in new ways. Brooches have always been a little confusing to me because I never can figure out the right way to wear them. Recently I bought this little beatle brooch in Cold Spring, NY and have worn it a few times on a shirt but I love that there are a few tutorials in the book on how to use pins.
This brooch is definitely a bit odd and a few folks have been really creeped out by it when I wear it but I love finding art in nature… Even if it’s a bug. (Here is where you can find a brooch similar to mine!)
(Still has the real brown legs superglued to the bottom.)
I also really liked the simple earring tutorials in the book. Above is a pair I made based off the yellow earrings in DIY Jewelry Recipe Book. The directions are clear and you can usually substitute supplies that you have if the book uses something outside your collection.
I also really loved the pinecone headband tutorial in one section. If I can find some teeny pinecones on a hike this fall, this would be the perfect Thanksgiving headband.
To get this book for yourself, you can find it on Amazon! Will have wedding projects and tutorials to share soon. 🙂
