I was so excited all day to take pictures of the Supermoon tonight— I’ve been a space dork for as long as I can remember– from Space Camp and beyond. π (And this is my astronaut cousin.)
While I love taking photos in low light, I had a bit of trouble capturing the Supermoon because my go-to lens is a wide-angle lens. While this lens is perfect for landscapes and indoor room photography, it isn’t exactly what I needed to capture the details of moon tonight.
I saw this post on free-lensing the other day on A Beautiful Mess, so I decided to try free-lensing with an old telephoto lens that my uncle gave me and my Nikon D40. (My b-team camera. :)) The equipment:
The results:
I didn’t get any spectacular results like this, but it was still fun to mess around with the old telephoto lens and look up at the moon! π If anyone has any tips on getting things focused while free-lensing, I would be SO grateful. Otherwise, I’m off to the Flickr message boards. π
Holy cow, Gus Grissom was your cousin?! That's awesome! He was the coolest. My dad used to work on the Grissom Air Force Base in Kokomo.
