As someone who grew up in Indiana, I am completely amazed by the variety of the natural world on the East Coast. Rivers, mountains, islands, the ocean… and it’s all a train ride away. 🙂 A couple weekends back, we went back up to hike at Breakneck Ridge along the Hudson. We went there last fall, but it was wonderful to go back in a different season to take in the views again. Breakneck Ridge is a hiking trail that begins by a steep scramble straight up the mountain and then loops around in the valley until you end in the town of Cold Spring, NY.
After we hiked this time, we got dinner + beers + ice cream in Cold Spring before catching the train back to the city. Our waitress told us that Breakneck Ridge wasn’t actually an official trail until about 10 years ago. She said that so many hikers would trespass and do the hike until it was made into an official hiking trail.
Another cool thing about the Breakneck Ridge trail is that there are all of these ruins everywhere. I don’t know what they are exactly, but it seems like they’re old farm buildings and farmhouses.
If you live in the city or you are visiting for a bit of time, Breakneck Ridge makes for an incredible afternoon. I can’t wait to go back in the fall. 🙂

That trip looks like it was awesome, pretty, and a lot of fun. We like hiking too so I think we would have really enjoyed it, especially because there was a lot of awesome views!
