You, unsuspecting, wear me too —
And angels know the rest.
-Emily Dickinson
So one of my favorite things about spring and summer is that I can wear flowers in my hair. For some reason I feel ridiculous wearing real-looking flowers in the winter time because the weather is so cold and bitter– very unlike flowertime weather! So. Last summer there was this natural fibers festival that came through my town– it was GREAT. Wool + creating things = π to me. I found out how to make these wonderful felted wool flowers.
… a little woolly garden when its chilly outside.
You can wear the flowers in your hair, on a cardigan, or on a coat! I really love these flowers, they do not look like anything you can buy in a store so whenever I am wearing one, sometimes I can see people staring at them to figure out what they are. π
Close-up…
… another close-up. USA! USA! We have such a great flag. Danke Betsy Ross.
Because I made these felted flowers from instructions that someone else wrote that I had to buy, I don’t feel too comfortable writing the instructions online. I will say that the principles of felting wool applies to making these flowers. BUT– here is the link to Suzanne’s blog where she has other wool felting projects. She also has the directions that I used in her Etsy store. They are 6$ but they are SUPER detailed. Anyone can make these flowers from her directions. π Plus– crafters support crafters… blah, blah, blah. π
I think I can safely say that I have an obsession with flowers, though.
P.S. Cute felted flower scarves/pins/clips/broaches here, here, here, here, and here.
