This past month or so has been a complete whirlwind. I went home to see my parents, I moved apartments (!!!), and also went on a two-week trip around the British Isles. With all of that going on, it actually feels like a little vacation to get home and just go to work every day. It feels so good just to come back home, work on crafts, decorate the apartment, and get back to blogging. π
I wanted to share a few photos from each country we visited in a post or two over the next few weeks. First up, England. It was such an incredible experience to be bopping around the British Isles and Ireland because the majority of my ancestors were from these places. (Especially Ireland.) The frustrating thing, for me, is that I really want to know where exactly my ancestors lived. Was it Northern Ireland? Wales? Am I actually English? Like many Americans, my family’s documentation is a bit shoddy, but it’s definitely something I want to research and look into.
Our first stop in the UK was London. It was really interesting to go from New York City to London and compare the two. London feels immaculate compared to NYC, especially the Tube. But London doesn’t have near as many trains as NYC so maybe that’s why they can keep everything so tidy. π
Gate outside of Buckingham Palace.
Such cute cabs + The British Museum.
England’s done such a great job of fixing this bridge after Voldemort got to it.
Resting some worn-out feet in Hyde Park.
Stuck my toes in the Serpentine. (Sean thought this was gross.)
We also took a little day trip to the Roman baths in Bath as well as Stonehenge. (More on Stone Henge later.) π Bath was one of the most incredible cities I’ve ever seen, it was so uniform, old, and gorgeous. Originally built around the 800s BC, Bath has been built up, rebuilt, lost, and then found again. (Seriously. They lost the baths for a while.)
The baths sit on top of a geothermal spring and you can actually drink some of the mineral water as a part of the tour. (Not the green water in the photo.) The water tasted like sulfur.
After our day trip to Stonehenge and Bath, we came back to London, had a picnic near Westminster and then woke up the next day to take a trip up to Scotland! Check back for more photos. <3
These pictures are amazing! I cannot wait to get over there! Your HP reference made me LOL π thx! xo
This is one reason I love following American bloggers – great to know the differences in perceptions between two such similar cultures, "clean" is certainly not the adjective that first comes to my mind when I picture London.
I also love how living in a country makes you rubbish at doing cultural things there, one always wants to go somewhere else when there's culture right on the doorstep – I say this because I've never visited Bath or Stonehenge! In such a small country this must seem really ridiculous to you… and it pretty much is, I have no excuse! Thanks to opening my eyes again to what a great place I live in, I must make the effort to get out more!
I was just in London a few weeks ago and visited Bath too! I LOVED it!! Such a beautiful place!
