While I love fashion, I am not the type of fashion-lover that sits on Style.com during Fashion Week waiting for new pictures and videos to pop up. Sure, I’ve watched some runway shows streamed to my computer and I’ve even been to a (b-list) fashion show in NYC… but as I’ve grown a bit older, I’ve realized that the thing I love about fashion isn’t the high-level, hoity-toity stuff– I find the style a person possesses much more fascinating. That being said, there are some pieces from high-end brands, like the Miu Miu glitter sunglasses, that strike me with their over-the-top design and say, “Yes. I am needless frippery. But I am incredible frippery.”
I’ve always loved Miuccia Prada’s designs, from her bird prints to her complete glitterization, the line is always so whimsical and fun. But when I saw Nicolette Mason wearing the glitter sunglasses on her blog, I knew I had to find a way to make the glasses for myself because the Miu Mius are quite pricy and I already have one expensive hobby. π (By the way, Nicolette has INCREDIBLE style and she is one fine photographer.)
Making these sunglasses is really easy– the only tricky part is finding frame shapes that match the Miu Mius. I used this pair of glasses for my glitter glasses because they looked the most similar, but I really like this pair as well. π
To make the glitter glasses:
You just need a bit of glitter and some Mod Podge, or this special glitter Mod Podge. (I love the fine glitter in this Mod Podge.) I actually mixed regular Mod Podge with some chunkier glitter for the base and then added the glitter Mod Podge for the top layers. The process is quite simple, just paint on layers of Mod Podge until you are satisfied with your level of glitteriness! π
And in my wardrobe, nothing goes better with a pair of glitter sunglasses than a Polaroid. π I also love how perfectly this skirt matches the camera.
Skirt: Macy’s | Shoes: Guess, DSW | Purse: Vintage Coach “Willis” Bag, Thrifted
Glitter, Polaroids, sunglasses… Doesn’t get much better. π
I just love you. You are pure creative awesomeness, in a down to earth way that I almost feel I could achieve, if not for my immense laziness.
So for now I will just admire all your glitter, glue and general greatness, and pretend I will actually make my own versions one day!
As a complete aside, has anyone ever told you that you have Drew Barrymore's smile, you lucky thing!

I love my shades and glitter! Can't wait to try this DIY. I have a very important question though. I was looking in on buying a polaroid, but I can't get myself to get it because the film is so expensive! Do you know a place where I could find inexpensive film?

I love glitter and my shades! This is a must try DIY. I had an important question though. I was thinking of getting a polaroid sx-70, but I can't find cheap film. Do you know where I could find some for a low price? ( aka not a dollar per photo! π )

Hey @FamousAmous! Thanks for your comment. π Unfortunately the Polaroid film is still pretty expensive– a dollar per photo would actually be a steal. The film from the Impossible Project is actually around $3-4 per photo. :/ I do use the Fuji Instax though, and their film is about $1 per picture. Hope this helps!

Just wondering, now that some time has passed, how the glitter on the shades held up? Did it get all over your face or clothes when you wear them?
Nope! The glitter has stayed on these really well. Not one bit has come off– I think it is because the sunglasses are such a small area and they're really sturdy.
Such a creative and cute idea! Here's my version of them ^_^
